Taking a “day on” on MLK Day
For the past several years, Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Day has been more than just a holiday some of our employees in South Florida. Our partnership with the YMCA of South Florida has provided opportunities for these employees to participate in the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service MLK Day and serve those who could benefit the most from our community’s helping hands.
“This year we had dozens of volunteers representing several different departments within the company celebrate Dr. King’s legacy by rolling up their sleeves and help beautify communities in Miami and Broward,” said Juliet Roulhac, corporate and external affairs manager, FPL, Broward and Southwest Florida. “We got a great start to the year by partnering with the YMCA of South Florida and working together to make a difference in communities where we live and work.”
Through the L.A. Lee YMCA Family Center & Sports Club in Broward, volunteers helped beautify the Cradle Learning Center, one of the oldest childcare learning centers in Fort Lauderdale. Tasks included mulching, landscaping and assembling and painting picnic tables.
Volunteers in Miami worked with the Village of Allapattah YMCA and Family Center to do senior home renovations for seniors who could not afford or are physically unable to make home improvements. The day was spent painting interior and exterior areas of the home as well as much needed landscaping duties.
