Hurricane season is here. At FPL, we are ready to respond to hurricanes and severe weather, and we urge our customers to make a plan and prepare, too. We also recognize that this can be a difficult task for homebound senior citizens and disabled adults who often find themselves without adequate food supplies following a storm. That’s why we’ve partnered with organizations such as Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches, Inc. (MOWPB) and Whole Foods Market to help bring homebound senior citizens and disabled adults hurricane food kits containing nonperishable food supplies.

For the last several years, we have supported Baynanza, an environmental cleanup event that enlists volunteers from a number of locations all across Miami-Dade County to clean up debris and garbage from Biscayne Bay shorelines. On Saturday, April 22, more than 145 of our volunteers including employees, family and friends, gathered at Matheson Hammock Park to take part in the largest shoreline cleanup in South Florida.

At FPL, we’re working with the communities we serve to make Florida an even better place to work and raise a family. Our employees and their families – our strongest connection to our communities –– donate thousands of volunteer hours each year to make a difference in local neighborhoods. In 2016, employee volunteers contributed more than 85,000 hours through company-sponsored projects and their own personal volunteer time.

At FPL, we’re working with the communities we serve to make Florida an even better place to work and raise a family. Our Dollars for Doers program allows us to recognize, support and encourage the valuable contributions of our employees’ volunteer efforts. The program rewards qualifying nonprofit organizations for the volunteer work of our employees when certain criteria are met. Thanks to employees logging their volunteer hours, the NextEra Energy Foundation distributed nearly $143,000 worth of Dollars for Doers grants to 400 deserving nonprofit organizations across the country in 2016. Additionally, we have supported more than 1,500 nonprofits and our employees raised more than $3.7 million for their communities last year.
